Review - Everything, Everything By Nicola Yoon

Expected Publication: 1st September 2015

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I'm allergic to the world.I don't leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He's tall, lean and wearing all black--black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can't predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It's almost certainly going to be a disaster.

I received this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A unique storyline with loveable characters and a beautiful cover, Everything, Everything sure has everything!

I requested the book purely on the blurb and cover and I am so happy I had the chance to read this one!

Madeline suffers from SCID. Basically she is allergic to everything and has been housebound pretty much her whole life with her only contact from her mum and nurse Carla, that is until new neighbours arrive and Olly walks into Madeline's life. Madeline doesn't want to just survive any more she wants to live and experience life to the fullest even if it means risking her life.

I had an instant connection to Madeline, how can I not, she is a fellow book addict! She is sheltered from the real world, not getting the chance to experience a normal life like an eighteen year old girl should and I really felt for her. I loved the relationship Madeline and mum shared, if felt really authentic and was a nice change to see the dynamic as a lot of books I have read lately haven't tended to develop the child/parent relationship.

Olly is such a loveable character, he's not fazed by Madeline's illness and treats her like a normal person. I like the fact he wasn't a 2 dimensional character, we find out about his home life and his difficulties as well. The relationship between Madeline and Olly is really sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it blossom.

Everything, Everything is about a girl trying to overcome the difficult situation life has handed her and live her life to the fullest and experience love for  the first time. There is also a plot twist that I didn't expect which was really refreshing and added so much more to the whole book.

I adored Everything, Everything, I couldn't put it down and I can't wait to see what Nicola Yoon has in store for us next. An exciting new author who is going to take the Young Adult genre by storm!

  1. What an interesting concept. I feel like I am allergic to so much, but not that much! And this cover is amazing! I will have to add it to my TBR
